Salem
Many years before ‘Friends’ became rubbish, unfunny and sickeningly sentimental - I had a great idea about what they could do when it finished.
The idea was simply, ‘The Joey and Chandler Show’. They would basically remain unmarried and unsuccessful and the comedy would become more adult (they would have drunk beer and said f*ck and stuff).
But, (here’s the genius part) they would be joined in the flat by Salem, the talking cat from ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’, whom ultimately acts as a voice of reason between the two.
Whenever Joey says anything stupid, Chandler repeats it (in that flustered way that we know so well) to try and get him to realise he’s a dumbass - which always fails - Salem puts his hand over his face, gives a world weary sigh and shakes his head. It’d be hilarious.
Ross, Phoebe and Monica would come into the flat occasionally (like, once a series) and the studio audience would cheer, like when Norm or Frasier walks on set in Cheers, or Kramer comes into Seinfields apartment.
Rachel would never be in it because I HATE HER.
The making of the idea is Salem, whom was awesome and the best part of the ‘Sabrina’ series (which was otherwise wack).
I thought for many years that my enthusiasm for this sage like feline was not shared by others.
