Resolutions
I arrived back at home after three weeks in a campervan in the early hours of this morning.
I have hitherto avoided making any new years resolutions, based on the fact that ‘giving up smoking’ would be unwise when sharing a 10’ x 6’ space with a sibling 24/7.
After five hours sleep, I arrived at work this morning to find 460 unread emails (I couldn’t login via VPN based on some server work over the Christmas period).
Feeling rather much like I’d decided to speed up the 3 hour ferry crossing by drinking several passable glasses of cheap Cab Sauv, I was feeling decidedly vulnerable.
It was in this state that I decided to make some resolutions:
- Stop habitually drinking Diet Coke
- Stop biting finger nails - two weeks in and I’m getting to the point where I need to trim them
- Totally stop smoking
- No white carbs, no dairy
- Gym 4 x per week minimum
- Get teeth whitened and start smiling in photographs
- One hours writing per day
- Learn Italian (I’ve still got the CD’s from this time last year)
- Get my sleeve (tattoo) done and my right leg covered up
- Live a cerebral life where possible. - This year is all about the things that make me happy (theatre, art, music, cooking) and not things that don’t (mainly drinking and people whom make me feel like shit about myself)
There we go: Like all good targets - they’re SMART. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMART_criteria)
Subjective, Monotonous, Anally Retentive and Tedious.
